How to create products and categories | CORE_007

This tutorial explains how to build out your storefront catalog by creating categories and products, then linking them together for a cleaner customer browsing experience. You’ll learn where to find Manage Categories, how to add a category with just a name (plus optional parent categories, homepage spotlighting, category page content templates, and an image), and how categories can contain products. It then shows how to create a product via Catalog → Product Management, choose a product type (e.g., stock product), populate the product landing page using content templates, and add product images. Finally, it covers setting basic pricing via Product Variants, viewing the product page on the front end, and using Category Mappings to assign the product into the category so it appears correctly for customers.

0:00 In this tutorial, as part of the Infigo Core Learning Pathway, we're going to be taking a look at how to create and manage products on your storefront.
0:10 But before we dig into actual products themselves, let's have a look at how we can group those products together in categories.
0:16 categories. So categories are basically ways of nicely combining products together on the front end of your storefront to give a very nice customer experience so they can go through categories and subcategories to find the product that's relevant for them.
0:33 So we can find categories by searching for categories on our admin screen and then going to the Manage Categories section of the admin area.
0:43 Now we can create as many categories as we like, so I just go to Add New. And then fundamentally, all we actually need on here is a name.
0:58 I can then save that. And then that technically is ready to go. Of course, there is a lot more information we can input in here as well.
1:08 So for example, if we want a category nested inside another existing category, we can specify what a parent category is going to be.
1:17 So currently we don't have any. We can specify that we want the category to show on our homepage if we want to spotlight it And then if we scroll further down, we have the ability to actually put some content on that category page.
1:31 And this is utilizing the same methodology that we've saw in the previous tutorial, which was looking at how to design your site.
1:38 So here we can utilize content templates to actually put content on our category page. And then scrolling further down, we have the ability to input a picture on our category page as well.
1:51 So I'll just fill a few of those details in. And with those details input, I can save my category. Now, the other critical thing we need to know about categories is how to actually add products to them.
2:06 So, if we go across to the Products tab, if we were going to add multiple products to our singular category, we could simply say, add a new product, and then it would show us a product list.
2:17 Of course, on this storefront so far, we haven't created any products. So, let's do that now. In order to create products, we want to go to Catalog, Products and Product Management or search for Product Management on our menu.
2:34 This will take us to our product. Our product database, our product catalog, which will show us all of the products that we have available on our storefront, and it will give us the ability to sift and filter between them if we need to find a particular one.
2:53 Enter a product name, and then we're selecting the product type that we want to utilize. Now, your list may or may not look exactly like this.
3:06 There are multiple different types of products available, the descriptions of which are available in other learning pathways on the Infigo Academy.
3:14 If you find that you need a product type that isn't available in your current list, send a message to customer support and they will be able to enable it for you.
3:22 going to stick with a simple stock product and click Create. We're then taken to the product details area of our particular product we've created.
3:35 You can see there's a lot of different tabs available, covering a lot of different information. First and foremost, however, we're looking at the product information.
3:44 This is where we're actually populating our product landing page. And once again, we're utilizing the content template functionality that we saw on our previous tutorial.
3:55 So I'll fill a few of these details out. So we can see something on the front end. I might now want to move across and add an image to our product.
4:05 So if I go to the pictures tab, here we can upload one or multiple thumbnails which we're gonna associate with our product.
4:13 Now that we've specified our basic informational detail on the product, we now might want to look at some more of the technical detail of the product.
4:33 So this is things such as the pricing, thing. It's things such as the stock quantities and other technical information related to the product.
4:43 So if I go across to our Product Variants tab, it's important to note that every product will only have one variant available.
4:55 I can go across and click Edit. That will open up a separate screen related to that exact same product, but this is where we start looking at those technical elements.
5:05 And the main things we're going to be looking at in this particular tutorial are just the basic pricing information. So if I scroll a little bit down, we can find Pricing, and I can add a standard price for that particular product.
5:22 There's a lot more detail on pricing and different pricing methodologies available in other tutorials on the Infigo Academy. I'm going to go ahead and save that.
5:33 And now we're ready to actually go and view our product. The easiest way to do this if we're logged in as the Storefront Administrator is just to click View Product Page.
5:42 On the top right of your screen. That will take us to the front end of the Storefront and directly to that product page.
5:50 So you can see I've got several images, my basic descriptions, and my specified price. one thing we still need to do is actually add this product to the category that we created.
6:02 Quickest way to get back to our product details page is to go down to the content overlays. On the bottom left, and then in the case of a product page, we can click on the Edit Product From here we can go to Category Mappings and define which categories this product is a part of.
6:29 is that we're able to see our category, which I've placed on the home page. If we click on that category, that will then show us all of the products that are contained within that category and then we can access them from there.
6:40 And that's it for this basic tutorial. In the next tutorial in this series, we'll be taking a look at at managing the basics of shipping and payment.
