00:00:05:15 - 00:00:05:25
In this

00:00:05:25 - 00:00:09:03
tutorial, we'll take a look
at configuring Fields on your MegaEdit

00:00:09:03 - 00:00:14:22
canvas to fit the Bleed page
or any margins that you have specified.

00:00:14:25 - 00:00:19:04
This functionality is particularly useful
as these relationships will be maintained

00:00:19:04 - 00:00:24:17
when the canvas is changed,
including an aspect ratio change.

00:00:24:20 - 00:00:26:08
So I've got an example product here.

00:00:26:08 - 00:00:29:09
I'm going to begin by adding
and configuring a field

00:00:29:09 - 00:00:32:09
on this canvas.

00:00:32:16 - 00:00:32:26
Okay.

00:00:32:26 - 00:00:37:05
So in my example, I've created a text
field with a defined background colour

00:00:37:05 - 00:00:45:18
just to make it clear how
much of the canvas the field is covering.

00:00:45:20 - 00:00:46:00
So next,

00:00:46:00 - 00:00:49:23
We'll click on the custom tab
to access the Form Builder functionality

00:00:49:26 - 00:00:53:09
will assign the field a name
and a type as we have previously covered

00:00:53:17 - 00:00:58:20
with the text
field using the form builder.

00:00:58:22 - 00:00:59:16
Okay, so you'll see

00:00:59:16 - 00:01:03:25
I'm in the advanced settings for this
particular field and in order to activate

00:01:03:25 - 00:01:09:05
these FitTo bits of functionality,
we need to add an associated field tag.

00:01:09:07 - 00:01:11:10
Now this is done at the bottom
of the screen here.

00:01:11:10 - 00:01:14:20
We've covered quite a lot of what's
available in here already.

00:01:14:22 - 00:01:18:24
What we're looking at in this particular
tutorial is one of these options here.

00:01:18:26 - 00:01:21:26
If I just try a few of these
just to show you what they do,

00:01:22:03 - 00:01:23:28
we have FitTo bleed.

00:01:23:28 - 00:01:29:13
If I click the plus icon
that will resize the field so that it does

00:01:29:15 - 00:01:32:01
constantly fits
the bleed regardless of the shape

00:01:32:01 - 00:01:36:28
and size of the canvas.

00:01:37:01 - 00:01:41:12
I take that tag off and try to page.

00:01:41:14 - 00:01:48:09
You see, that's now fitting to our page
outline and is ignoring the bleed.

00:01:48:11 - 00:01:50:10
And then we also have FitTo margin.

00:01:50:10 - 00:01:53:01
Now this depends on you
having specified margins

00:01:53:01 - 00:01:56:28
in your MegaEdit products,
output type specification.

00:01:57:00 - 00:02:00:21
You see, I've got a sample margin
which is displayed here in the green.

00:02:00:24 - 00:02:04:02
If I add to that,
you see it snaps to my margin.

00:02:04:02 - 00:02:08:20
In addition to these options,
we have this show Border Controls.

00:02:08:22 - 00:02:13:12
So this gives us the ability to apply
borders to any of those three field tags.

00:02:13:15 - 00:02:16:10
This means, for example,
we could apply a ten millimeter

00:02:16:10 - 00:02:20:02
border on the left side,
meaning regardless of the canvas size,

00:02:20:06 - 00:02:29:06
the field always sits ten millimeters
from the specified field tag.

00:02:29:09 - 00:02:30:21
So if we have show

00:02:30:21 - 00:02:33:21
border control
specified for this particular field,

00:02:33:21 - 00:02:38:07
will notice that on the right hand side,
we have these border options.

00:02:38:10 - 00:02:40:17
Now, initially these will be locked.

00:02:40:17 - 00:02:44:02
So changing just one of these entries

00:02:44:04 - 00:02:46:01
will give you a matching value
for all of them.

00:02:46:01 - 00:02:49:12
And these relate to left, right,
top and bottom.

00:02:49:15 - 00:02:51:24
You see that I put ten that

00:02:51:24 - 00:02:55:06
now means it's ten millimeters
from each of these.

00:02:55:08 - 00:02:58:16
Now, do bear in mind
that the default metric is millimeters.

00:02:58:16 - 00:03:02:13
However, you can change this
to inches within the script config

00:03:02:21 - 00:03:08:27
if it's required.

00:03:09:00 - 00:03:09:28
We also have the ability

00:03:09:28 - 00:03:13:26
to apply different borders
to each of these sides if necessary.

00:03:13:28 - 00:03:16:04
So I can just go on the unlock icon.

00:03:16:04 - 00:03:19:18
She's on the actual form itself
that gives me separate

00:03:19:20 - 00:03:22:09
access to each of those sides.

00:03:22:09 - 00:03:25:11
So for example, if I set this to zero,
you can see there's no longer a border

00:03:25:11 - 00:03:28:11
on the right hand side.

00:03:28:17 - 00:03:29:10
So let's take a look

00:03:29:10 - 00:03:33:16
at an example of a field with a FitTo tag
and then one without.

00:03:33:16 - 00:03:35:21
And we'll see how they behave.

00:03:35:23 - 00:03:38:09
So here I have a

00:03:38:09 - 00:03:42:17
a sized field, but it does not have
any of these fit options specified.

00:03:42:17 - 00:03:45:17
So you can see if I go to its settings
on the form builder,

00:03:45:20 - 00:03:49:15
it does not have any of the FitTo

00:03:49:16 - 00:03:52:25
tags specified.

00:03:52:28 - 00:03:54:25
Alternatively on my other page

00:03:54:25 - 00:03:58:07
and exactly the same size field,
exactly the same position.

00:03:58:10 - 00:04:01:22
If I go to this one,
you'll see that this has a FitTo

00:04:01:22 - 00:04:05:21
bleed specified, but with a ten millimeter
margin on every side.

00:04:05:21 - 00:04:07:26
So now I'm just going to switch
between canvases.

00:04:07:26 - 00:04:13:19
So this will be a different aspect
ratio and a different size.

00:04:13:22 - 00:04:20:07
We'll take a look at those two fields.

00:04:20:10 - 00:04:21:18
If I now scroll between them,

00:04:21:18 - 00:04:25:13
you can see that this FitTo field

00:04:25:16 - 00:04:28:04
maintains a static distance,

00:04:28:04 - 00:04:34:04
a static border away
from the FitTo field that we specified.

00:04:34:07 - 00:04:36:28
However, if I go to the non fit, it won't.

00:04:36:28 - 00:04:39:02
Although it has changed
the shape of the field,

00:04:39:02 - 00:04:41:29
you can see it is not a constant border
around the edge anymore.

Automatic field fitting using field tags (Form Builder) | FB_011

In this tutorial, we'll take a look at configuring fields on your MegaEdit canvas to fit the bleed, page or any margins that you have specified. This functionality is particularly useful, as these relationships will be maintained when the canvas is changed, including an aspect ratio change.

9. Check Show border controls…

In addition to these options, we have the ability to apply borders to any of these three field tags.

This means, for example, we could apply a 10mm border on the left side, meaning regardless of the canvas size, the field will always sit 10mm from the specified field tag.

10. With Show border controls specified, border options will be available in the form

Initially these are locked, so changing one entry gives a matching value to them all. Users do have the ability to unlock these borders, so different values can be input for each edge.

Note: mm is the default measurement for the border, however this can be switched to inches within the script config.

Our field with a FitTo tag is utilising FitToBleed with a 10mm border.

In contrast, the NoFit field is in exactly the same position and is exactly the same size, but does not have a FitTo tag or associated border.
