What you will need to configure MegaEdit 3D | ME_3D_002

The presenter outlines the essential components required for MegaEdit 3D, emphasizing the need for a separate license for the 3D preview module, the specific version of Blender (2.79) due to plugin compatibility, and basic Blender modeling knowledge. Additional recommendations include Visual Studio Code for code editing, software for creating 2D templates (like Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop), and a physical mouse for easier navigation. Familiarity with MegaEdit and its configuration is necessary, and resources are available through Infigo Academy and support. For 3D models, users can create their own, import from other platforms, or download from the web, though the latter may require additional adjustments.

00:00:05:22 - 00:00:07:20
Okay, so I want to spend a few minutes

00:00:07:20 - 00:00:10:20
talking about what you actually need for
MegaEdit 3D.

00:00:11:18 - 00:00:14:28
There's a few different moving parts
which are which are required for this.

00:00:14:28 - 00:00:16:19
A few I've mentioned already.

00:00:16:19 - 00:00:20:28
the first and foremost, though,
is that the 3D preview outside of,

00:00:21:19 - 00:00:26:04
Infigo is a separate module,
so it's a separate license.

00:00:26:19 - 00:00:29:20
So if after you've seen this,
you are keen to try out,

00:00:29:20 - 00:00:32:27
you are keen to get more information
and then get in contact with your Customer

00:00:32:27 - 00:00:35:27
Success manager,
which will be either Rob or Greg.

00:00:36:02 - 00:00:39:19
and they can give you
that extra information if you need it.

00:00:41:09 - 00:00:43:17
But you also need is blender.

00:00:43:17 - 00:00:47:08
Now this is a specific version of blender
2.79.

00:00:47:16 - 00:00:49:08
Forget that. Correct?

00:00:49:08 - 00:00:54:11
it's an older version of the again,
freely available 3D modeling software,

00:00:54:17 - 00:00:58:04
and it is still freely available
for download on the web from Blender's

00:00:58:04 - 00:00:59:08
download locations.

00:01:00:08 - 00:01:01:23
Now, the reason we need an older

00:01:01:23 - 00:01:06:18
version of blender is
because we utilize an add on or plugin,

00:01:06:23 - 00:01:10:08
which is not really compatible anymore
with the more recent versions.

00:01:11:07 - 00:01:12:28
So there's no problem
with using this older one.

00:01:12:28 - 00:01:15:28
It's just because we need to use
that particular plugin.

00:01:16:06 - 00:01:19:03
That plugin is something called three.

00:01:19:03 - 00:01:22:15
And what this basically allows us to do
is to export our blender fall

00:01:22:15 - 00:01:25:27
in a Json format
that we specifically require.

00:01:27:13 - 00:01:29:01
Now, as I mentioned this, this

00:01:29:01 - 00:01:32:01
addon has been kind of depreciated
over the years.

00:01:32:06 - 00:01:34:20
and it's probably quite unlikely
to be on the web.

00:01:34:20 - 00:01:37:22
So if you do get to the stage
where you have the 3D preview module

00:01:37:22 - 00:01:39:16
and you want to play around with it,

00:01:39:16 - 00:01:43:22
you can ask our team and we'll be able
to provide that plugin to.

00:01:47:23 - 00:01:48:09
Going down the

00:01:48:09 - 00:01:51:09
list to something a little bit less.

00:01:51:11 - 00:01:54:11
That's
let me get to this list on here as well.

00:01:56:23 - 00:01:58:07
So the next thing I would recommend,

00:01:58:07 - 00:02:01:09
but is not necessary
by any means, is Visual Studio Code.

00:02:01:19 - 00:02:04:12
this is just
makes it a bit easier to do that.

00:02:04:12 - 00:02:07:19
A couple of editable lines of code if you

00:02:08:20 - 00:02:09:25
when you need to.

00:02:09:25 - 00:02:12:02
So you can easily
just use notepad as well.

00:02:12:02 - 00:02:15:02
This just makes it a bit clearer
why you need to do those changes.

00:02:20:02 - 00:02:21:05
So you will need the ability

00:02:21:05 - 00:02:24:23
to create your die line,
or some form of template

00:02:24:23 - 00:02:28:22
that we're going to use
for the 2D element of, or preview.

00:02:29:19 - 00:02:32:19
again, this could be multiple
different software packages.

00:02:32:23 - 00:02:34:28
Most of you
probably have access to Adobe Suite.

00:02:34:28 - 00:02:37:08
So Illustrator or Photoshop. Fine.

00:02:37:08 - 00:02:41:02
You might have your own package, your own
capabilities of creating guidelines,

00:02:41:19 - 00:02:42:23
whatever else.

00:02:42:23 - 00:02:46:17
If you're in a pinch, even paint
might suffice for something basic.

00:02:51:29 - 00:02:54:23
Now, I
contemplated not putting this one on here,

00:02:54:23 - 00:02:58:03
but we do have recommendation
of a physical mouse.

00:02:58:18 - 00:03:03:07
so rather than your laptop mouse,
if you are using blender,

00:03:03:25 - 00:03:07:25
and I did try this for a little while,
using that without a mouse

00:03:07:25 - 00:03:11:25
and just using a trackpad on a laptop
or something is incredibly difficult,

00:03:11:26 - 00:03:13:01
if not impossible.

00:03:13:01 - 00:03:15:22
I think I'm
sure Hector will be able to do it.

00:03:15:22 - 00:03:18:22
but yes, I'd recommend a physical maps.

00:03:20:28 - 00:03:22:19
You will need some MegaEdit knowledge,

00:03:22:19 - 00:03:25:05
so especially the stuff
I'm going to be talking about today.

00:03:25:05 - 00:03:28:16
It is assuming that you've got
some level of magnetic knowledge already.

00:03:29:01 - 00:03:32:22
Things just like setting up your canvases,
setting up

00:03:32:28 - 00:03:36:04
default product configurations
and all that kind of good stuff.

00:03:38:02 - 00:03:39:02
you will need that.

00:03:39:02 - 00:03:43:13
The sort of 3D preview element,
just sort of a bolt on on the end.

00:03:43:29 - 00:03:47:11
Now there is the Infigo Academy,
which has loads and loads

00:03:47:11 - 00:03:48:26
of resources on MegaEdit.

00:03:48:26 - 00:03:53:01
So if you need help with that,
we do have it in video form.

00:03:53:10 - 00:03:56:19
And of course if push comes to shove
you can contact our support team as well.

00:04:04:29 - 00:04:07:01
Okay.

00:04:07:01 - 00:04:11:07
and then finally what I've put on here
is blender modeling knowledge.

00:04:11:07 - 00:04:14:19
So if you are planning to create your own
3D models,

00:04:14:25 - 00:04:19:14
you will require some knowledge
on how to construct those using blender.

00:04:20:06 - 00:04:21:19
what I've discovered as well

00:04:21:19 - 00:04:25:13
is that you can import
other types of model in there as well.

00:04:25:13 - 00:04:28:26
So if you're familiar
with another 3D modeling platform,

00:04:29:13 - 00:04:30:15
you might be able to create

00:04:30:15 - 00:04:34:04
in there and export it in a file
which is relevant for import into blender.

00:04:34:16 - 00:04:38:19
So the capabilities are there and we can
provide more information if required.

00:04:39:18 - 00:04:44:05
you do also have the option,
although it might need

00:04:44:05 - 00:04:49:04
a little bit more thought
to download models from the open web.

00:04:49:19 - 00:04:52:07
So there are various websites available
where you can download

00:04:52:07 - 00:04:53:21
these blender models.

00:04:53:21 - 00:04:56:11
Some of them that you download
might not be in the correct

00:04:56:11 - 00:04:59:25
state to immediate use
to create a 3D preview from.

00:04:59:25 - 00:05:01:14
So there is a caveat to that.

00:05:01:14 - 00:05:02:10
But just so you know,

00:05:02:10 - 00:05:06:01
resources are available on the internet
for you to download these, these,

00:05:07:00 - 00:05:09:26
these already created 3D models,
but it might need a bit

00:05:09:26 - 00:05:12:26
more work to get it in the right
state to use it.

Incomplete
Guide

Fully configuring a MegaEdit product with 3D preview will require a few different resources and pieces of software. In this section, we'll take a look at these requirements.

  • 3D Preview module license | MegaEdit's 3D preview capabilities form a separate module and license within the Infigo software. Get in contact with your Customer Success Manager if you would like more information or to discuss this in further detail.
  • Blender 2.79 | This is an older version of the 3D modelling software, which is still available for download from the web. We require an older version of Blender as we utilise an add-on/ plugin which is no longer compatible with more recent versions.
  • THREE | A plugin for Blender which allows us to generate required json files from the Blender model. This add-on has been depreciated and is unlikely to be available on the web. If you require this plugin, please get in touch with Infigo who can assist.
  • Visual Studio Code | Recommended free software available on the web. This will allow you to easily make any minor changes required to either the json files from Blender or the 3D config script required by MegaEdit. If you would prefer not to use this, Notepad is also a viable software option.
  • Dieline or template creation tool | Illustrator, Photoshop or even Paint will suffice for a basic dieline. There are also a multitude of other creation tools, along with websites which can create dielines for you.
  • A physical mouse | Trust me, Blender is virtually unusable without a mouse with a central scroll wheel!
  • MegaEdit knowledge | A working knowledge of MegaEdit is required, as the usual product configuration steps need to be followed.
  • Blender modelling knowledge | If you are planning to create your own 3D models, you will require knowledge on how to construct models (or import models created elsewhere) into Blender. This is a widely used software package with a great deal of user generated educational content.
