00:00:11:26 - 00:00:12:27
In this tutorial, we're
00:00:12:27 - 00:00:16:12
going to take a look at the absolute
basics of the Invent plugin
00:00:16:23 - 00:00:22:01
with subsequent tutorials
going into these areas in more detail.
00:00:23:06 - 00:00:26:08
So what I want to explain in this short
video
00:00:26:17 - 00:00:29:26
is just what the different areas
of the Invent plugin are.
00:00:30:09 - 00:00:34:06
So you'll see that if we have the Invent
plugin open within Adobe InDesign,
00:00:34:15 - 00:00:37:23
there's a few different tabs five in total
which contain
00:00:37:23 - 00:00:41:04
all of the information
we're going to need to use.
00:00:42:16 - 00:00:44:18
First off, here we have the resources tab.
00:00:44:28 - 00:00:47:29
So this is where we can actually add
additional resources
00:00:47:29 - 00:00:52:07
to our Invent file
that we're going to be creating from this.
00:00:53:01 - 00:00:56:24
By clicking on Add resource set,
you can see the different type of
00:00:57:28 - 00:01:01:06
resource
that we're able to add to our Invent file,
00:01:01:17 - 00:01:05:07
including background
sets, clip heart sets,
00:01:06:11 - 00:01:08:06
font sets,
00:01:08:06 - 00:01:13:01
text libraries and color sets.
00:01:15:00 - 00:01:16:23
Those are all specified within here.
00:01:16:23 - 00:01:21:26
And then when we take that to MegaEdit,
which we'll see in tutorials,
00:01:22:05 - 00:01:24:27
that data is brought over with that
00:01:24:27 - 00:01:29:25
exchange file.
00:01:29:25 - 00:01:31:27
Next along we have the variables tab.
00:01:32:09 - 00:01:35:21
Now this is how we can actually
utilize our resources.
00:01:36:04 - 00:01:41:01
And it also means that we can create
a form which appears as part of the mega
00:01:41:01 - 00:01:45:13
edit product, which allows us to modify
that product's design.
00:01:46:25 - 00:01:49:27
Now, as with the resources,
there's a few different variable types
00:01:49:27 - 00:01:52:23
available which will cover
during the course of the series.
00:01:53:03 - 00:01:57:26
This includes things
like generic variables, such as dropdowns
00:01:57:26 - 00:02:02:19
or boolean variables, so true or false,
but then has some more specific
00:02:03:05 - 00:02:07:15
variable types as well,
such as time and date variables,
00:02:07:15 - 00:02:10:16
specific image variables, color variables
00:02:11:07 - 00:02:13:28
and so on.
00:02:16:27 - 00:02:18:29
The next tab along is the properties tab.
00:02:18:29 - 00:02:22:16
Now this is how we actually link
the resources and the variables
00:02:22:16 - 00:02:25:15
that we've created
as part of our Invent design
00:02:26:02 - 00:02:28:15
onto our actual canvas itself.
00:02:29:23 - 00:02:32:16
Now, before we can do anything
with the properties tab,
00:02:32:22 - 00:02:37:19
we need to have the relevant type
of element available on our main canvas.
00:02:38:03 - 00:02:41:12
And what we're primarily looking for here
is an image field
00:02:41:22 - 00:02:44:04
or a text field.
00:02:47:06 - 00:02:48:29
So I'm just going to utilize my rectangle
00:02:48:29 - 00:02:53:14
frame tool over on the left just to create
an image field as an example.
00:02:54:02 - 00:02:58:11
And I'm going to do the same
with the text type tool
00:02:59:03 - 00:03:02:13
used to create an in text box as well.
00:03:05:11 - 00:03:08:13
Now when I select each of these
on my properties tab,
00:03:08:13 - 00:03:12:12
you'll see that I have the ability
to enable those particular frames.
00:03:12:24 - 00:03:17:03
And what that means if we take enable,
is that when we export this
00:03:17:03 - 00:03:22:09
as a template file to take to MegaEdit,
those fields will be considered dynamic
00:03:22:15 - 00:03:26:21
and we'll be able to do additional things
with them, either from the Invent file
00:03:26:27 - 00:03:30:13
or within MegaEdits itself.
00:03:32:21 - 00:03:33:02
So if I
00:03:33:02 - 00:03:36:00
select on one of those,
so the image, for example, then enable
00:03:36:09 - 00:03:39:03
I see some additional settings
which will cover in future
00:03:39:03 - 00:03:46:01
tutorials.
00:03:47:21 - 00:03:50:20
The last thing I want to talk about
in this particular tutorial
00:03:50:20 - 00:03:52:06
is the export tab.
00:03:52:06 - 00:03:57:28
This is how we actually create
the resulting MEX file,
00:03:58:10 - 00:04:01:23
which is what we take over to Infigo MegaEdit
00:04:04:02 - 00:04:08:00
Now in this particular tab, it shows us
things such as how many variable fields
00:04:08:00 - 00:04:11:21
we have, what resources we've uploaded,
how many variables we have.
00:04:12:04 - 00:04:15:20
It will take all that information
into the MEX file
00:04:15:29 - 00:04:22:22
ready for us to put into MegaEdit.
