Product Groups | BG_030

Product Groups (not to be confused with Categories) are a means of combining many of the Product Variant settings of similar products. As a reminder, the Product Variant settings contain data such as pricing, attributes, etc. Some products benefit from sharing this information. Say, for example, you have several leaflet products which share many elements such as the same pricing structure, the same stock options, size options, etc. A Product Group can be utilised to control those elements of the product from a single place, meaning your products do not need to be controlled individually.

00:00:08:00 - 00:00:08:24
Product groups

00:00:08:24 - 00:00:11:27
not to be confused with categories
are a means of combining

00:00:11:27 - 00:00:15:19
many of the product variants
settings of similar products.

00:00:15:22 - 00:00:18:21
So as a reminder, the product variant
and settings contain data

00:00:18:21 - 00:00:21:17
such as pricing and attribute information.

00:00:22:15 - 00:00:25:07
Some products benefit from the sharing
of this information.

00:00:25:19 - 00:00:30:01
Say, for example,
you have, say, several leaflet products

00:00:30:09 - 00:00:34:06
which share many of their elements,
such as the same pricing structure

00:00:34:14 - 00:00:38:01
or the same stock options, size
options, things like that.

00:00:38:14 - 00:00:42:04
A product group can be utilized
to control those elements of the product

00:00:42:04 - 00:00:43:15
from a single place,

00:00:43:15 - 00:00:49:19
meaning your products
don't need to be controlled individually.

00:00:49:19 - 00:00:51:08
So just to give a bit of context.

00:00:51:08 - 00:00:55:13
What I'm on here is the product
variant settings of one of my products.

00:00:55:22 - 00:01:00:18
So products not placed within a product
group will have variant settings

00:01:00:18 - 00:01:04:19
which look like this, which contain things
such as pricing information.

00:01:05:22 - 00:01:07:16
We've got

00:01:07:22 - 00:01:11:05
weights and dimensional information,
tax information,

00:01:11:23 - 00:01:17:14
delivery information, attributes and so on

00:01:18:04 - 00:01:21:00
when they get added to a product group,
as we'll see in a moment,

00:01:21:06 - 00:01:25:00
most of these options will no longer
appear on the variant settings page

00:01:25:06 - 00:01:28:19
for individual products.

00:01:30:09 - 00:01:32:22
So what we're going to do
now is to navigate

00:01:32:22 - 00:01:39:15
to product groups.

00:01:39:15 - 00:01:41:11
From here,
we just need to create the group.

00:01:41:11 - 00:01:44:27
So we go on Add New on the top, right?

00:01:44:27 - 00:01:48:22
And I will begin by giving this a name.

00:01:53:24 - 00:01:56:10
Now what you'll notice
is that many of the settings

00:01:56:10 - 00:02:00:03
that are available within your newly
created product group match

00:02:00:03 - 00:02:03:21
those of the product variant settings
from the individual products.

00:02:04:03 - 00:02:07:09
So things such as pricing, for example,
delivery information,

00:02:07:20 - 00:02:11:25
tax information and so on.

00:02:14:15 - 00:02:15:29
And what it means is that all

00:02:15:29 - 00:02:19:01
of these settings,
once we save this product group

00:02:20:08 - 00:02:24:04
and then go to products in the group
and assign some products to it.

00:02:24:18 - 00:02:26:21
So I just need to select the products

00:02:29:05 - 00:02:31:10
and click Save Changes.

00:02:31:10 - 00:02:35:02
It means that once those are registered
as being within a product group,

00:02:35:23 - 00:02:38:27
all of these settings will now control all

00:02:40:03 - 00:02:42:28
the aspects of all of those products
contained within

00:02:42:28 - 00:02:51:04
the group.

00:02:52:24 - 00:02:56:22
Please do note the products
can only be contained within one product

00:02:56:22 - 00:02:59:14
group at a time
and you can see which one that is

00:03:00:03 - 00:03:01:22
from here.

00:03:06:26 - 00:03:08:18
So let's actually verify this

00:03:08:18 - 00:03:11:12
by entering some basic information
into the product group.

00:03:11:21 - 00:03:13:06
So I'll just enter a basic price.

00:03:13:06 - 00:03:18:22
For example, and then save that.

00:03:20:23 - 00:03:24:03
Now the first thing I'm going to do
just to verify is to return

00:03:24:03 - 00:03:27:27
to the product variance settings
for one of those group products.

00:03:28:11 - 00:03:31:00
The what we should say
is that a lot of that information

00:03:31:00 - 00:03:41:07
is now
not available on the individual product.

00:03:41:21 - 00:03:46:04
So you see now we've got a far shorter
page with all of that information

00:03:46:04 - 00:03:50:22
we saw in the product group settings
no longer available in here.

00:03:51:03 - 00:03:54:02
Also, if you go over to attributes,
which is another important point,

00:03:54:13 - 00:03:58:28
you can see that it's
now being controlled by the group.

00:04:01:02 - 00:04:01:06
We'll

00:04:01:06 - 00:04:03:19
also navigate to the front end
for those products.

00:04:04:12 - 00:04:06:22
So let me just open those out.

00:04:06:22 - 00:04:14:25
So there was two products
we contained within the group.

00:04:16:07 - 00:04:17:29
What we can see is that product two,

00:04:17:29 - 00:04:19:14
there has a price of £10

00:04:19:14 - 00:04:21:21
and product one also has a price of £10.

00:04:21:21 - 00:04:24:04
So they are sharing that information.
