2 · The Golden Rules of Prompting

🔥 Hot Tip: Let AI Refine Your Prompt

Before hitting “Generate”, ask the AI to critique and upgrade your own prompt against best-practice guidelines. It will flag missing details (audience, length, format) and request anything it still needs.

Your first draft

Create a product description for a label product which has a few different sizes and finishes available. Don't make it too long and wordy. It should get the point across in a short space but also needs to be descriptive and clear enough make the user want to purchase.

Ask AI to critique

Here's a draft prompt:
---
[PASTE PROMPT ABOVE]
---
Please improve it so it follows top prompt-engineering guidelines:
• add missing details (audience, sizes, finishes, tone, length, format)
• keep it concise & action-oriented
If you need extra info before rewriting, ask follow-up questions instead of guessing.

AI-enhanced prompt

You are a copywriter for an online print store.
Draft a 70–90 word product description (one paragraph) in British English.
Audience: small-business owners ordering packaging labels.
Product details:
• Sizes: 50×50 mm, 75×75 mm, 100×150 mm
• Finishes: gloss & matt
Highlight vibrant colour print, durable adhesive and easy peel-and-stick backing.
Tone: concise, energetic, persuasive.
End with a short call-to-action inviting purchase.

Tool vs Model: Make the Smart Choice

Pick your platform first, then the brain that powers it.

1) Choose your provider

OpenAI ChatGPT

Versatile all-rounder for writing, coding and brainstorming. Plus tier (~£20 / $20 pm) lifts usage caps and unlocks premium models.

Google Gemini

Powered by Google Search, ideal for live research and fresh web info. “Gemini Advanced” plan adds larger context windows and extra tools.

Microsoft Copilot

Built into Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams, delivering a secure, integrated experience with your tenant’s data.

2) Pick the right model

In ChatGPT, models are the neural networks that process your prompt and generate a response. Each balances reasoning skill, speed, context-window and cost differently, so choosing carefully can save tokens and improve quality.

OpenAI o3

Most advanced reasoning model—excels at complex, multi-step analysis across coding, science, maths and visuals.

GPT-4.5 (preview)

Largest chat model to date with broader knowledge, improved intent-following and fewer hallucinations.

GPT-4o

Multimodal flagship that reasons across text, images and audio in real time—with a generous daily allowance on Free and higher limits on paid tiers.

3) Keep your data safe

How a provider handles your prompts and outputs is critical. Free tiers often let the company train on your inputs, while paid or enterprise plans may let you switch this off. Always confirm exactly how your data is stored, retained and used.

Golden Rules

• Never share confidential or personally identifiable information (customer data, passwords, unreleased assets) with public models.
• Assume anything you type could be logged and reviewed unless explicitly stated otherwise.
• For sensitive workloads, use paid tiers, enterprise offerings or private API deployments that give you explicit opt-outs and tighter security.

Kick-start Your Storefront Layout with AI

Turn a blank canvas into a structured game plan in seconds

Why use AI for layout planning?

  • Create a task list covering front-end build, product data, shipping & payments.
  • Surface relevant Infigo Academy articles automatically.

Copy-ready prompt

Drop this into ChatGPT or Claude and tweak the placeholders:

You are an e-commerce solutions architect specialising in Infigo storefronts.
Research the latest guidance on https://academy.infigo.net and create a layout playbook for a new storefront selling [PRODUCT CATEGORY].
Return:
1. Recommended page tree (max 2 levels deep).
2. Task checklist grouped by: Front-end build, Product catalogue, Shipping & delivery, Payments & taxes, Legal & compliance, Go-live QA.

What a good response looks like

Prompt tips

  • Be specific: replace [PRODUCT CATEGORY] with “wide-format signs” or “personalised stationery”.
  • Mention your target market or integrations (e.g. “integrated with printIQ”).
  • Include “research the live site” to force real-time browsing and avoid stale info.
  • Iterate: ask the AI to refine timelines, assign owners, or output CSV.

Always cross-check AI suggestions against your workflow and compliance requirements.
