How Do I Impose Artwork Files?

Overview

Imposition is the process of arranging pages into a print-ready layout so that, once printed and finished, the final document appears in the correct order and format. This is commonly used for saddle-stitched booklets, tickets, children’s books, and other multi-page printed products.

In Infigo, imposition works by taking the generated PDF output from a product and processing it through an external imposition workflow using hot folders and MegaScripts.

Imposition can be used with:

  • Static PDF products
  • Multipart products
  • MegaEdit products
  • MegaEdit Upload UI products

Paid Module Requirement

Imposition is a paid module / setup process and is not enabled by default.

Customers interested in using imposition should contact their Customer Success Manager (CSM) to discuss licensing, setup requirements, and any additional implementation support that may be required.

Due to the technical nature of the setup, imposition workflows are typically configured by Infigo developers or the Professional Services team. However, the setup steps below have been provided for customers who would like to understand the process or attempt the configuration themselves.

Preview Support

Static PDF products support imposition preview when using Booklet Preview Mode. This behaviour does not apply to Multipart and MegaEdit Upload UI products.

For workflows using external imposed output generation, the imposed PDF is typically generated after the standard product output and made available as a downloadable file.

If additional or custom preview functionality is required, this may need further investigation and potentially custom development.

Prerequisites

Before setting up imposition, the following should already be in place:

  • The Imposition module must be enabled
  • Required MegaScripts must be installed
  • Hot folders must be created
  • An external imposition process must be available
  • A MegaEdit template must be configured for the imposed layout

A few of these will be provided after discussing your setup requirements with CSM / developers.

The workflow relies on Infigo generating the original PDF output, which is then processed externally into the final imposed version.

How Imposition Works

Once an order is placed, the product generates its standard PDF output. That file is copied into a configured hot folder, where an external imposition process applies the required layout and creates the final imposed PDF.

The imposed file can then be made available for download by the customer or production team.

Setting Up Imposition

Configure the Product

Imposition can be configured against Static PDF, Multipart, MegaEdit, or MegaEdit Upload UI products. The product itself is responsible for generating the original PDF output.

Configure Hot Folders

Hot folders are used to transfer files between Infigo and the external imposition process.

Typically, the workflow includes:

  • An output folder for generated PDFs
  • An imposition input folder
  • An imposition output folder

Folder mappings can also be configured so that specific products automatically route files into the correct workflow.

Enable Auto-Copy to Hot Folder

Within platform settings, enable auto-copy to hot folder for the required product types. This ensures generated outputs are automatically copied into the correct location for processing.

Configure the MegaEdit Template

The MegaEdit template controls how the imposed layout is structured.

This can be configured for layouts such as:

  • 2-up
  • 4-up
  • 10-up
  • Ticket layouts
  • Booklet layouts

Image placeholders should follow a sequential naming structure such as:

  • Image1
  • Image2
  • Image3

The numbering determines the order in which pages are positioned during imposition.

Configure the MegaScripts

The MegaScripts manage the imposition workflow, including:

  • Processing files from the source folder
  • Generating imposed outputs
  • Creating download links
  • Managing file cleanup and expiration

Products can be mapped using product tags or attributes so that different products use different imposition layouts.

Customer Outcome

Once configured, customers can place orders as normal while the system automatically generates the imposed print-ready PDF in the background.

The final imposed file can then be downloaded for production purposes.

Depending on configuration, imposed files can either remain permanently available or expire automatically after a set number of days.

Troubleshooting

Imposed File Is Not Generated

Check that:

  • The original PDF output has been created
  • Hot folder mappings are correct
  • The MegaScript is running
  • The external imposition process is active

Incorrect Page Order

Review the MegaEdit template and confirm image placeholders are named sequentially and positioned correctly.

Download Link Not Available

Confirm the relevant Imposition View and Download MegaScripts are enabled and that the file has not expired.

Summary

Imposition allows Infigo customers to automate the creation of print-ready PDFs for booklet, ticket, and multi-up print workflows.

The feature supports Static PDF, Multipart, MegaEdit, and MegaEdit Upload UI products and works by routing generated outputs through hot folders into an external imposition process.

Booklet preview support is available for Static PDF products and may also apply to Multipart and MegaEdit Upload UI products depending on configuration.
