The Avalara AvaTax provider plugin now offers the Common Carrier / FOB Destination shipping tax code (FR025000) in its Shipping tax code dropdown. Select it when your customer has a separate contract for shipping so that Avalara applies the correct tax treatment at checkout.
Environment
- Avalara AvaTax provider plugin installed and enabled
- Infigo tax settings configured to base tax on the shipping address
Configuration
Step 1: Confirm the prerequisites
Before selecting the shipping tax code, make sure the Avalara AvaTax provider plugin is installed and enabled, with valid credentials and a Company Code configured and Test Connection passing, and a valid ship-from address entered. In the tax settings, tax on delivery should be set to be configured by the provider so that Avalara controls the shipping tax. If any of these are missing, the tax code will not be applied as expected. Contact Infigo Customer Support if you need the plugin enabled.
Step 2: Open the Avalara AvaTax provider configuration
In the admin panel, go to Other plugins, then open the Avalara AvaTax provider and click Configure. The configuration page opens with the plugin's settings grouped into sections, including a Default Settings section that contains the Shipping tax code dropdown.
Step 3: Select the Common Carrier / FOB Destination code
In the Shipping tax code dropdown, select 'Common carrier / fob destination - customer has option to separately contract for shipping (Code:FR025000)'. This is the new option and it tells Avalara to treat shipping under this arrangement. You can review the description of each shipping tax code from the link shown beneath the dropdown.
Step 4: Save the configuration
Click Save at the top of the page to store your selection. The setting is saved against the Avalara AvaTax provider configuration.
Step 5: Clear the cache
After saving, clear the cache. The plugin caches its responses, so the new shipping tax code will not take effect at checkout until the cache is cleared.
