Tutorial Video Transcript

00:00:13:03 - 00:00:16:05
In this video, we're going to take a look
at learning

00:00:16:06 - 00:00:21:19
how to batch import products
from an external Excel document.

00:00:22:15 - 00:00:26:12
So what I mean by this, and I've got
a little example that will be using,

00:00:26:22 - 00:00:30:11
is that if we don't want
to manually create every single product

00:00:30:20 - 00:00:33:10
that is going to be
within our storefront, then

00:00:33:11 - 00:00:35:28
we could either generate or

00:00:37:12 - 00:00:39:21
manually create a Excel sheet

00:00:39:21 - 00:00:43:09
such as this, which lists
all of the products that we want to add.

00:00:44:18 - 00:00:49:10
And then we can auto import
all of those products.

00:00:50:27 - 00:00:53:27
What we're going to do to begin
with is to actually get the correct

00:00:53:27 - 00:00:57:13
format of Excel sheet
that we require to import these products.

00:00:57:27 - 00:01:03:13
That can be done from within the Infigo
software itself.

00:01:03:17 - 00:01:06:22
So I'm going to start off
on the product management page.

00:01:06:24 - 00:01:09:12
So where we have a list
of all of our current products

00:01:10:10 - 00:01:14:13
and the easiest way to get the correct
and most up to date format of this

00:01:14:13 - 00:01:20:12
Excel sheet is to export
your existing product set to Excel.

00:01:21:08 - 00:01:23:29
You do this
just by hitting the export to Excel button

00:01:26:03 - 00:01:28:24
and I will get the document for you

00:01:38:03 - 00:01:40:23
and that will give you all of the headings

00:01:40:23 - 00:01:44:22
that you require along with details
of your current product range.

00:01:45:19 - 00:01:47:03
You can see there's loads of different

00:01:47:03 - 00:01:49:12
bits of information
that we can apply to here.

00:01:50:28 - 00:01:55:03
You don't need to apply every single bit
of information just as much as you feel.

00:01:55:03 - 00:01:58:19
You need to define your product.

00:02:01:15 - 00:02:09:06
So as I mentioned, you don't need
to complete every single column.

00:02:09:07 - 00:02:11:04
However, using this template,
you will be able

00:02:11:04 - 00:02:14:11
to add a large amount of detail
to your product specification.

00:02:15:03 - 00:02:19:01
And to name just a few of the potential
bits of information you can add in here.

00:02:19:02 - 00:02:21:11
So you can do product attributes.

00:02:21:11 - 00:02:24:01
You can do product tags

00:02:24:01 - 00:02:27:26
descriptions, including the formatting
of the description using HTML.

00:02:28:14 - 00:02:30:19
Product type product ID.

00:02:30:19 - 00:02:32:22
And so much more information.

00:02:34:05 - 00:02:36:13
An important note.

00:02:36:13 - 00:02:38:20
If you scroll over to the left hand
side, you'll notice

00:02:38:20 - 00:02:45:04
the first column is the product
ID you must enter a product ID.

00:02:45:11 - 00:02:48:12
Imported products
are distinguished by their product ID.

00:02:48:26 - 00:02:52:06
If the product ID is written in here
already exists,

00:02:52:16 - 00:02:55:27
then the corresponding product already in
your database

00:02:56:05 - 00:02:58:28
will be updated.

00:03:02:18 - 00:03:05:06
So what we want to do
if we want to import new products,

00:03:05:06 - 00:03:09:11
so we would either update the products
we have in here or just get rid of those

00:03:09:11 - 00:03:13:10
rows completely and populate this
with our updated information.

00:03:14:14 - 00:03:16:10
And then just to reiterate

00:03:16:10 - 00:03:18:10
what we have as a result here.

00:03:19:24 - 00:03:23:07
So this is the detail
that we'll be importing.

00:03:24:27 - 00:03:28:10
So there's a few different product IDs.

00:03:28:10 - 00:03:31:18
We have the name,
we have some description information.

00:03:33:07 - 00:03:36:15
And as we scroll
along the various bits of information

00:03:36:15 - 00:03:40:12
that we've included, most of it
is just the default set of information.

00:03:40:21 - 00:03:43:29
So no specific additional information
has been included.

00:03:44:16 - 00:03:45:14
Of course, once

00:03:45:14 - 00:03:49:26
it's been imported into Infigo,
we can update that information later.

00:03:49:26 - 00:03:54:04
It is just a standard product
specification beyond on that point.

00:03:55:17 - 00:03:58:17
But we can specify
as much as we like in here beforehand

00:03:58:24 - 00:04:07:19
if we wish to do so.

00:04:12:27 - 00:04:14:27
So if we go to the product management
screen,

00:04:15:16 - 00:04:19:19
I'm just going to go to import from Excel.

00:04:21:19 - 00:04:23:14
As soon as you click on the import tool,

00:04:23:14 - 00:04:27:02
it does give you some guidance
on utilizing that Excel template

00:04:27:26 - 00:04:30:06
and including things
such as where you need to add

00:04:30:06 - 00:04:32:17
additional data where necessary.

00:04:32:17 - 00:04:34:18
So you can have a read through that

00:04:34:18 - 00:04:37:22
before you actually select
the file that you want to utilize.

00:04:37:22 - 00:04:40:17
You want to make sure that you've got it
close out on your machine.

00:04:41:02 - 00:04:44:16
So this is the one I'm using, so I want to
close that before we start loading.

00:04:44:16 - 00:04:46:19
It's in.

00:04:51:04 - 00:04:53:16
If I just click on Open

00:04:56:26 - 00:05:00:09
and then import from Excel,

00:05:00:09 - 00:05:01:09
you'll get information

00:05:01:09 - 00:05:04:23
popping up on the bottom right here
to tell you how the import is going

00:05:05:03 - 00:05:08:03
and if there is any problems
to do with the import.

00:05:08:03 - 00:05:12:04
You also get a pop up on the top
part of the screen here,

00:05:12:04 - 00:05:14:07
giving you that additional information on

00:05:15:12 - 00:05:18:12
why something couldn't be imported,
which bit of information

00:05:18:12 - 00:05:20:03
was missing, for example.

00:05:20:03 - 00:05:24:11
So it should give you a pretty robust
series of information here as to

00:05:24:16 - 00:05:29:16
if something is failed to import
and why it's failed to import.

00:05:34:29 - 00:05:35:17
And that's it.

00:05:35:17 - 00:05:36:10
That's all we need to do.

00:05:36:10 - 00:05:41:12
So if I refresh that page now, we should
see our list of updated products.

00:05:43:01 - 00:05:45:17
And if I just go onto one of those

00:05:45:17 - 00:05:53:04
products, we should be able to take a look
at the information that's been imported.

00:05:53:04 - 00:05:56:15
So you can see that various
bits of information that were from

00:05:56:15 - 00:06:00:01
the Excel sheet have been imported
into the relevant columns.

00:06:01:06 - 00:06:04:14
And as we see, there's still space
for a lot of additional information.

00:06:04:14 - 00:06:06:18
So there's a lot of information
we could have imported

00:06:06:18 - 00:06:10:12
into this Excel sheet,
which we chose not to do.

00:06:10:12 - 00:06:19:28
So in this particular example.
