0:13 In this tutorial, we'll learn how to import

0:15 large quantities of customer data using a dedicated import tool.

0:23 To start off with, we're going to navigate to the customer management screen.

0:26 So if we go to customers and customer management,

0:33 this will show is a list of all of the customers currently created

0:37 in this particular storefront.

0:39 In this particular example, we can see there's only one.

0:44 If we want to mass import our customers, we can go across

0:47 to the CSV import tab.

0:51 There's a lot of information detailed on here

0:53 to try and help you through this process nice and smoothly.

0:58 So you can have a read through what it expects

1:01 from the different bits of information.

1:05 One important thing to remember is that we recommend

1:08 that you only import 200 per sheet.

1:14 So we import a CSV documents.

1:17 We recommend that you limit it to 200 customers per CSV document.

1:21 You can import multiple CSV documents one after the other.

1:25 That's no problem at all.

1:26 But try and limit it to 200 for each individual sheet.

1:36 If you scroll right down to the bottom of this page,

1:39 you have got the ability to download a template CSV and this saves you having

1:44 to create all of the headings yourself and potentially making human error.

1:50 Ask mistakes in just typing or copying

1:53 and pasting or whatever you need to do.

1:56 So download this

1:57 and you'll end up with something like

2:02 this document here.

2:06 So this gives you all the necessary headings that you require

2:12 along with a sample user.

2:15 Just giving you

2:17 an idea of what expectations

2:20 these columns have.

2:29 Now we'll populate

2:30 our CSV template with our own customer data.

2:33 We have a sample available,

2:36 so I'll show you now

2:41 that we have nine

2:44 sets of customer data that we intend to import,

2:48 three different companies are represented by these customer data.

2:52 We've got Red Company,

2:54 we've got Blue Company and we've got Green Company.

2:57 Each of red, blue and green have an administrator, an approver

3:02 and a general user.

3:04 And what you'll find is that as we look across these columns,

3:08 those users have tried to be set up as such

3:10 in the respective columns.

3:14 So for example, if I look in

3:17 departments which we set up in a previous video, you can see that

3:20 they've been put in a relevant department

3:24 based on their company.

3:27 Some of them have been assigned specific customer roles,

3:33 so that will give them certain access rights.

3:37 They've been assigned to particular companies

3:41 and there's some

3:41 address information being imported in there as well.

3:44 You don't need to fill in every single column,

3:47 just the information that you feel your customer import needs.

3:52 There are some bits of information which will be mandatory.

3:55 So, for example, the entry of a password.

4:08 So I'm going to close this down.

4:09 It's a good idea to close the sheet down before you try and import it.

4:16 Scroll back to the top of the CSV import list

4:19 and then select the file that you want to import.

4:34 Once you're happy, click on import

4:40 and this will give you very detailed feedback

4:44 as to which imports have been successful and which have not.

4:47 So you can see from this particular CSV

4:50 that we imported here that there has been a few problems.

4:54 So it's saying the six user accounts were successfully updated.

4:57 Three users could not be imported.

5:01 Now, that's not a massive amount of information.

5:03 So I might want to see a little bit more detail related to that.

5:07 And I can download an associated report which will tell me exactly what fails

5:12 in this link here

5:22 and what it's saying.

5:25 So my administrator rows

5:29 so row zero, three and six.

5:31 So let's just open our CSV sheet again just to get some context.

5:42 So this will be zero

5:44 three and six administrator roles where we've actually assigned

5:49 the role of administrator to these particular users.

5:52 We can see that it's saying that the password format is incorrect.

5:57 So it's very detailed set of information

5:59 and it's telling us exactly what we would need to change,

6:02 exactly what we need to change before we can successfully import

6:06 those customers.

6:24 So I'm going to go

6:25 ahead and make those changes,

6:42 save those, and then I'm going to re-import

6:48 that information.

7:00 You can see now

7:00 that all nine user accounts have been successfully updated.

7:05 We haven't ended up with duplicates

7:07 of those duplicate entries from the two imports.

7:10 So everything is now set up as we expected.

7:13 If we look in the list of users that we've imported,

7:17 we can get a feel for the information

7:19 that has been inserted and defined.

7:23 So for example, we've got our approver, who's part of the red company

7:29 in the red company department

7:32 with approver roles.

7:36 I come down to my admins.

7:38 We can see that refined or defined as storefront

7:40 administrators in the relevant department and the relevant company.

7:44 For example.

7:45 So the import has been successful.
