Tutorial Video Transcript

00:00:13:07 - 00:00:14:18
In this tutorial we'll learn

00:00:14:18 - 00:00:18:04
how to create
and utilize text library resource sets.

00:00:18:19 - 00:00:22:09
This resource type allows you
to predefined text string options.

00:00:22:28 - 00:00:27:23
These could be used for, for example,
to allow the selection of specific.

00:00:27:23 - 00:00:30:27
Addresses or telephone numbers
rather than just

00:00:30:27 - 00:00:34:19
having a free entry field.

00:00:35:17 - 00:00:36:21
So the first thing we actually need to.

00:00:36:21 - 00:00:38:22
Do is to generate a resource set.

00:00:39:15 - 00:00:42:17
So if we're in InDesign

00:00:42:17 - 00:00:45:00
within our Invent plugin.

00:00:45:00 - 00:00:47:10
And the resources tab

00:00:47:29 - 00:00:54:17
and then click Add resource set.

00:00:54:17 - 00:00:55:21
We get a few options.

00:00:55:21 - 00:00:57:22
In this case,
we're going to click the text.

00:00:57:22 - 00:00:59:16
Library option.

00:01:03:22 - 00:01:06:07
And then we'll put in a name for that.

00:01:06:07 - 00:01:09:13
Particular resource set.

00:01:10:29 - 00:01:12:22
So for example, I might name mine.

00:01:12:22 - 00:01:13:21
Addresses

00:01:13:21 - 00:01:17:12
because in this particular example,
we're going to create a few different.

00:01:17:12 - 00:01:22:01
Address options that the user will
be able to select between.

00:01:23:12 - 00:01:25:15
From here,
there's a couple of different options.

00:01:25:15 - 00:01:27:28
You have the ability to manually. Enter.

00:01:28:10 - 00:01:29:01
Data.

00:01:29:01 - 00:01:31:06
Into this text library
if you need to do so.

00:01:31:21 - 00:01:33:09
Is simply a. Case of a.

00:01:33:09 - 00:01:34:27
Entering a key, which is what.

00:01:34:27 - 00:01:38:05
Will be displayed in the form
within MegaEdit over on the right hand.

00:01:38:05 - 00:01:39:00
Side.

00:01:39:10 - 00:01:43:22
And then the text fields, which is
actually what that entry contains.

00:01:43:23 - 00:01:47:20
So when you select the key in the form.

00:01:48:05 - 00:01:48:20
What's in the.

00:01:48:20 - 00:01:52:27
Text field is what will display
on your actual template itself.

00:01:53:28 - 00:01:57:15
So for example, by say my.

00:01:57:15 - 00:01:59:23
Key is add one

00:02:01:12 - 00:02:02:18
and then the actual text.

00:02:02:18 - 00:02:12:13
Might be the full version of that address.

00:02:13:29 - 00:02:16:05
Then you can click on add new text.

00:02:16:05 - 00:02:16:24
And it will add.

00:02:16:24 - 00:02:20:16
That to. The text library.

00:02:24:06 - 00:02:25:24
Second option we have here is.

00:02:25:24 - 00:02:28:26
To actually import text from.

00:02:28:26 - 00:02:31:28
A CSV document.

00:02:32:11 - 00:02:34:15
Now there's two ways to start.

00:02:34:15 - 00:02:35:10
Off this process.

00:02:35:10 - 00:02:36:12
You can either manually.

00:02:36:12 - 00:02:37:16
Create the template that.

00:02:37:16 - 00:02:41:09
You need, which is nice and easy,
or if you want to make sure.

00:02:41:09 - 00:02:43:13
That you get the correct.
Template. Information.

00:02:43:24 - 00:02:46:04
You can first. Click download.

00:02:46:04 - 00:02:48:28
So that will save the existing library
as a CSV

00:02:50:19 - 00:02:51:21
and it gives us the correct.

00:02:51:21 - 00:02:52:24
Format in which.

00:02:52:24 - 00:02:53:21
To start.

00:02:53:21 - 00:02:56:18
Populating additional entries.

00:02:56:18 - 00:02:59:11
However, if you were to create
this manually, it's very simple.

00:02:59:11 - 00:03:01:18
You need one column
with the header of key.

00:03:01:18 - 00:03:05:07
One column with the header of text.

00:03:05:17 - 00:03:08:12
Once you've created that data,
you can upload.

00:03:09:03 - 00:03:11:22
Into the editor itself here.

00:03:12:08 - 00:03:14:03
So if I go to the upload button.

00:03:15:09 - 00:03:16:10
And locate the file of.

00:03:16:10 - 00:03:22:15
Interest, you can see that
it's automatically read the data.

00:03:22:15 - 00:03:23:26
Out of that file.

00:03:23:26 - 00:03:27:16
And that's now part of our text library.

00:03:27:16 - 00:03:30:01
From here,
we have the option to automatically.

00:03:30:01 - 00:03:31:22
Create a dropdown variable.

00:03:31:22 - 00:03:32:13
Which is linked.

00:03:32:13 - 00:03:34:07
To this resource. Set, or we.

00:03:34:07 - 00:03:36:02
Can create it manually.

00:03:36:02 - 00:03:36:21
In this case.

00:03:36:21 - 00:03:38:25
I will create it automatically.

00:03:38:25 - 00:03:41:16
So check that box and click Save.

00:03:41:16 - 00:03:44:18
And what you'll see is that
if you scroll over to the variables tab,

00:03:45:07 - 00:03:46:20
a variable of type.

00:03:46:20 - 00:03:50:25
Dropdown has already been made
and if you edit that, you'll find

00:03:50:25 - 00:03:56:22
that it's already linked to the resource
set that we've just created.

00:04:01:15 - 00:04:04:29
Now we actually need to make sure that
the text that we've placed within our.

00:04:04:29 - 00:04:09:09
Resource set is being mapped
onto our actual template document itself.

00:04:10:13 - 00:04:11:09
So this is a similar.

00:04:11:09 - 00:04:12:27
Process that we've seen with.

00:04:12:27 - 00:04:15:27
Other workflows within Invent.

00:04:16:18 - 00:04:17:21
If I click on.

00:04:17:21 - 00:04:22:27
A relevant field within my document,
this is a text frame.

00:04:24:03 - 00:04:27:21
Go to our properties tab
and then I can make that dynamic and.

00:04:27:21 - 00:04:33:07
Controllable by Invent
by clicking the enable button.

00:04:33:07 - 00:04:34:13
We're controlling the text.

00:04:34:13 - 00:04:36:15
Itself, so we'll stay on the text tab.

00:04:37:01 - 00:04:40:19
And then it's simply a case
of mapping the text.

00:04:40:19 - 00:04:42:24
We want to. Utilize

00:04:43:05 - 00:04:44:28
to this box.

00:04:44:28 - 00:04:47:13
So there's a text mapping option here.

00:04:47:13 - 00:04:48:22
If we hadn't already created.

00:04:48:22 - 00:04:51:17
A variable, we could automatically create
a new one from this.

00:04:51:17 - 00:04:52:27
Box here.

00:04:53:08 - 00:04:54:10
In this case, we already.

00:04:54:10 - 00:04:56:07
Have our. Variable.

00:04:56:07 - 00:04:57:16
So I can check.

00:04:57:16 - 00:04:59:24
variable from the type dropdown.

00:05:00:06 - 00:05:02:20
And then choose a relevant variable.

00:05:03:04 - 00:05:04:28
And that's the set complete.

00:05:04:28 - 00:05:06:23
Now I'm going to export this template.

00:05:06:23 - 00:05:08:11
As a MEX file.

00:05:08:11 - 00:05:12:09
And import it into our MegaEdit product.

00:05:12:29 - 00:05:16:23
So now we have our document loaded
and we can see that in the form.

00:05:16:23 - 00:05:19:26
On the right hand side,
we now have our addresses dropdown.

00:05:20:14 - 00:05:21:09
Which is linked.

00:05:21:09 - 00:05:24:08
To the data that's actually
on our business card itself.

00:05:25:11 - 00:05:26:14
Now granted, the sizing.

00:05:26:14 - 00:05:27:29
Of that isn't ideal.

00:05:27:29 - 00:05:30:13
We would put some additional.

00:05:30:13 - 00:05:34:22
Formatting on that to make sure
that it fit correctly with our design.

00:05:35:24 - 00:05:36:29
However, in this case, just.

00:05:36:29 - 00:05:39:09
As an example of.
Changing the content. Of the.

00:05:39:09 - 00:05:44:01
Box, we can see that as we scroll
through these address options.

00:05:44:16 - 00:05:45:25
What shown in the dropdown.

00:05:45:25 - 00:05:49:13
List is what was recorded in the key
field in our.

00:05:49:13 - 00:05:50:18
Resources.

00:05:50:18 - 00:05:53:01
However, when we click on those,
it is the.

00:05:53:01 - 00:05:54:05
Text.

00:05:54:12 - 00:05:57:20
Field that was actually populated into

00:05:57:20 - 00:06:02:26
our template itself.
