Managing Marketing Email Opt-in Preferences

This article explains how to add a marketing email opt-in field to your registration form. The custom field gives customers the ability to indicate whether they wish to receive marketing communications.

Please note that the custom field we're using as an opt-in field is purely informational. It records the customer’s preference but does not alter system behavior. Once an email message template is active, any triggered email will be sent automatically regardless of the recorded opt-in choice.

For a detailed understanding of how to customize your registration forms, refer to the provided guide below. This article is intended to help you set up the field and understand its limitations concerning automated email controls.

Use cases

  • Allowing customers to express consent or decline receiving marketing emails during registration.
  • Collecting data to display alongside user profiles or for record-keeping purposes.

Key settings in Infigo

  • Custom Field Addition: Accessible via the Registration Form Settings in the Infigo UI.
  • Field Configuration: Located under the Custom Fields section, where you can add checkbox or dropdown options to capture user preferences.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Log in to your Infigo dashboard and navigate to the Registration Form Settings (Customer Settings > Registration Form [Section])
  2. Select the option to add a new custom field to your registration form.
    • Choose the appropriate field type, such as a checkbox or dropdown, for the marketing opt-in.
  3. Label the field appropriately (e.g. 'Receive Marketing Emails') via the Language Strings
    • We recommend filtering by fields containing "Fields.Custom" as this will isolate just the custom registration fields.
  4. Save the changes and review your registration form in preview mode to confirm the field appears correctly.
  5. Test the form to ensure that while the opt-in information is captured, automated emails will still be sent when a triggering action occurs.
