Changing Barcode Types for VR Cards

This article explains how to manage barcode fields when creating VR cards in Invent and later working with them in ME. It covers the limitations when converting an Invent-made QR code to another barcode type after the MEX import.

In Invent, selecting a barcode field as a QR code unlocks several extra input options tailored for advanced setups like VR cards. In contrast, choosing a simpler barcode type such as Code 39 limits the field to basic text entry.#

While you can create a new QR code from scratch in ME, altering an existing Invent-generated QR code to a different barcode type (for example, from QR to Code 39) does not work as expected. Instead, you will see either an unpopulated field or only the basic text information from Invent.

Use cases

  • Creating VR cards in Invent with advanced QR code configurations.
  • Attempting to convert an existing Invent-created QR code to a different barcode type after MEX import into ME.
  • Adding a new barcode field in ME when a different barcode type is required.

Key settings in Infigo

  • Barcode Field Configuration: Located in the Invent product setup, where you choose the barcode type (e.g., QR code or Code 39).
  • MEX Import: Accessible in the ME admin panel to import barcode fields created in Invent.
  • QR Code Creation in ME: Option to create a new QR code field directly in ME if adjustment is necessary.

Step-by-step guide

  1. In Invent, navigate to the product setup and add a barcode field. Select QR code to unlock a comprehensive set of configuration options for VR cards.
  2. If you need a basic barcode field, choose a type like Code 39, which only provides a single text input.
  3. Import the created barcode field into ME via the MEX file. The QR code from Invent will display correctly after import.
  4. Attempting to change an imported QR code to a different type (such as Code 39) in ME will result in an unpopulated or improperly functioning field.
  5. To use a different barcode type, create a new barcode field directly in ME rather than modifying the existing Invent-created QR code.
