Departments can also be used in conjunction with a feature named Access PermissionsA means of controlling which customers have access to different products., to control access to certain products. This functionality will be covered in another tutorial.

0:13 This tutorial

0:14 will cover the department's functionality

0:17 and describe how you might go about using it.

0:20 So departments are a means of grouping your users together and giving them

0:24 specific pathways and capabilities when using your storefront.

0:30 So, for example, users in a department

0:34 may have access only to certain delivery or payment methods.

0:38 Departments can also be used in conjunction with a feature named Access

0:42 Permissions to control access to certain products.

0:45 And that functionality will be covered in a different tutorial.

0:52 The first thing we need to do is to navigate to the department's screen.

0:56 So that's found under configuration

0:59 and departments.

1:03 This shows us a list of all of the departments that we have

1:06 available in the current storefront, of which at the moment there isn't any.

1:12 We click on Add New Record.

1:15 It wants a few bits of information from us

1:18 to do with the Department.

1:22 So primarily these first four boxes hit.

1:25 So we have a name of the department, a description,

1:37 a cos code

1:45 and a PL code.

1:54 With those bits of information inputs,

1:55 we can go on, insert

2:00 and we can get to some additional information

2:02 for that department by clicking on this plus icon to the left hand

2:07 side of the entry.

2:11 What we have available in here,

2:14 first and foremost, is to choose the customers

2:16 that we want to place within a particular department.

2:20 So it's just a case of

2:23 clicking on the checkbox next to the customers

2:25 that you want to insert at the moment.

2:28 Of course, we only have one customer in this storefront.

2:31 We will be adding more in future sessions

2:37 or scrolling a bit further down.

2:39 You also have the ability to select available payment methods to

2:45 customers within this department.

2:48 The same with shipping methods.

2:51 And if you've got different addresses defined,

2:54 you can choose which addresses that department is also able to use.

2:59 How to actually set up

3:01 these methods will be covered in different

3:04 tutorial videos.

3:11 Would you need to make sure

3:12 that we save these changes

3:23 so every single one of these sections has a different

3:25 save changes icon that you need to be aware of

3:33 and that is it.

3:34 That is your department created with a customer

3:38 defined to that particular department

3:42 for the purposes of this tutorial and our continued build of our storefront.

3:47 I'm also going to set up

3:48 a few additional departments which are going to help us going forward.

3:52 So if you are working alongside these tutorials to create a sample storefront,

3:57 then I would recommend creating some additional departments as well.

4:03 So we've got one which is called

4:05 RedCoDepartment.

4:20 Don't worry too much about the description cost code

4:22 PL code, just put anything in those

4:27 and also some similar entries

4:29 for blue co and green co.

5:03 There's our four departments created.

5:09 We click on Save

5:11 and those are now applied.
