Creating and utilising background resources | IV_003

In this tutorial, we will learn how to specify background resources such as solid colours or static imagery for use in our Invent templates within MegaEdit. This consists of generating one or more Resource Sets, which are then directly selectable from within the MegaEdit editor with little additional setup required.

Tutorial Video Transcript

00:00:14:20 - 00:00:15:20
In this tutorial,

00:00:15:20 - 00:00:18:14
we'll learn how to specify
background resources

00:00:19:16 - 00:00:22:15
such as solid colors or static imagery

00:00:22:15 - 00:00:25:06
for use in our Invent templates
within MegaEdit.

00:00:26:12 - 00:00:29:17
This consists of generating one
or more resource sets

00:00:29:28 - 00:00:33:06
which are then directly selectable
from within the MegaEdit editor

00:00:33:16 - 00:00:37:28
with little additional setup required.

00:00:40:09 - 00:00:43:04
So we'll begin in Adobe InDesign

00:00:43:16 - 00:00:46:12
and make sure that we have the Infigo
Invent tab

00:00:46:12 - 00:00:48:15
available.

00:00:49:18 - 00:00:51:16
We're going to go to the Resources Tab.

00:00:51:16 - 00:00:54:23
This is where we can add
multiple different types of resource sets

00:00:55:06 - 00:00:58:27
and click on add resource set.

00:01:00:28 - 00:01:03:03
This loads up a separate pop up.

00:01:03:03 - 00:01:06:19
You presented with a range of resource
sets that you can create.

00:01:06:27 - 00:01:09:18
In this example,
we're creating a background set

00:01:09:29 - 00:01:14:25
and the other sets will be covered
in additional tutorials.

00:01:15:03 - 00:01:20:00
Backgrounds can be used on the product
as the decoration behind the main design.

00:01:20:12 - 00:01:23:17
This would sit behind everything
and provide the background

00:01:23:17 - 00:01:27:18
for the product.

00:01:27:18 - 00:01:29:02
So we'll select background set

00:01:30:09 - 00:01:30:21
and enter

00:01:30:21 - 00:01:38:25
a name.

00:01:42:04 - 00:01:42:21
We can set

00:01:42:21 - 00:01:46:19
the accessibility level
so if we want it available to both admins

00:01:46:19 - 00:01:51:06
and users or administrators, only,
and then we can define

00:01:51:06 - 00:01:55:07
some potential images to use
as backgrounds and some colors.

00:01:56:25 - 00:01:59:27
So starting off with some colors,

00:01:59:27 - 00:02:01:27
we simply need
to input a name for the color

00:02:04:28 - 00:02:08:16
and then click on Select Color.

00:02:09:01 - 00:02:13:00
We can input RGB Values, CMYK values,

00:02:13:11 - 00:02:23:16
or we can use the actual color
picker itself.

00:02:24:29 - 00:02:27:10
So I'm just going to, in my case,
put in the RGB

00:02:27:10 - 00:02:31:13
values and click select.

00:02:31:13 - 00:02:36:10
The color that has been selected will be
shown as the backdrop for the box here

00:02:37:29 - 00:02:40:16
and then set add color.

00:02:40:27 - 00:02:45:07
Numerous codes can be added into one
resource sets or create a few additional.

00:02:45:08 - 00:02:49:03
Now, so we've added a few colors
to our background set

00:02:49:23 - 00:02:54:09
and now we might want to add a few images.

00:02:56:27 - 00:02:57:12
So I'm just going

00:02:57:12 - 00:03:00:05
to go ahead and click
this add images or PDF.

00:03:01:27 - 00:03:03:05
so I can select the potential

00:03:03:05 - 00:03:06:08
background images that I want to use.

00:03:06:08 - 00:03:08:24
Click on Open and then they are added

00:03:08:24 - 00:03:12:05
to our resource set.

00:03:15:02 - 00:03:17:15
save on that resource set.

00:03:17:15 - 00:03:20:22
And then we just need
to reexport the MEX file.

00:03:22:08 - 00:03:25:26
So I'll go to export,

00:03:25:26 - 00:03:29:17
make sure there's a export
file location specified

00:03:30:21 - 00:03:33:20
and then I'll hit start validations.

00:03:33:20 - 00:03:35:17
It will perform some background checks.

00:03:35:17 - 00:03:38:16
In this case, it's
just saying I need to save the document

00:03:41:20 - 00:03:47:13
and then export.

00:03:48:02 - 00:03:48:14
Now I'm

00:03:48:14 - 00:03:51:14
going to navigate to my Infigo admin area

00:03:52:07 - 00:03:55:23
and modify one of my MegaEdit products.

00:03:56:07 - 00:04:00:28
So the easiest way to get to this screen
is to go to your MegaEdit products list

00:04:02:06 - 00:04:09:02
and then click on Edit
next to your relevant product.

00:04:09:02 - 00:04:12:01
On the top right hand side,
we have the MEX import,

00:04:12:02 - 00:04:16:19
so if we want to actually link this
or replace the currently used

00:04:16:28 - 00:04:20:01
MEX file down, we click this button.

00:04:21:01 - 00:04:23:27
All of the
MEX details will be shown on this screen.

00:04:24:08 - 00:04:28:23
In this case, there isn't one yet
uploaded on this product.

00:04:29:02 - 00:04:33:18
I can go to choose a file,

00:04:33:18 - 00:04:36:25
select the relevant file and open

00:04:36:25 - 00:04:38:23
and then import.

00:04:39:06 - 00:04:41:02
Once it's imported, all of the relevant

00:04:41:02 - 00:04:46:02
details will be shown on this screen,
including things such as the canvas

00:04:46:02 - 00:04:49:27
that's being created,
stock outputs, fonts,

00:04:49:27 - 00:04:53:20
clip arts and so on.

00:04:53:21 - 00:04:56:14
Now we can go ahead and launch
the MegaEdit editor

00:04:57:03 - 00:04:58:25
for this product.

00:04:59:09 - 00:05:01:13
So there's our simple product
all loaded up now,

00:05:02:09 - 00:05:06:00
We also have this background
selection option over on the left.

00:05:07:17 - 00:05:10:03
So we can choose the relevant category

00:05:10:03 - 00:05:12:03
and then just drag and drop the options

00:05:13:12 - 00:05:14:18
onto our product.

00:05:23:07 - 00:05:27:07
If we want to remove the selected
background, go to the background

00:05:27:07 - 00:05:32:06
selection area
and just click and drag the removal tool

00:05:32:07 - 00:05:34:00
onto the main canvas.
