Overview

Emulate User Mode is an option in the MegaEdit editor for store administrators. As an administrator you can move, resize and change every field in a template, even the ones your customers cannot. Emulate User Mode switches the editor to customer behaviour, so you can check that your template works the way you intended for the people who use it.

What it does

  • Applies your field locks - fields that customers cannot move, resize, select or delete behave that way for you too.
  • Shows the customer's options - panels such as Text Options lose the administrator settings, Arrange and Manage.
  • Makes the mode obvious - [EMU] appears before the product name and in the browser tab.

How it works

  • Switch it on from Menu > Admin Product Options > Emulate User Mode in the editor. Only administrators see this option.
  • Nothing is saved - the design is redrawn with customer behaviour; your template does not change.
  • It stays on for that design, even after a refresh, until you switch it off or close your browser.

Good to know

  • It is not a full customer view. You are still signed in as an administrator, so details filled in from a customer's account, their roles, department, catalogue access and prices are not applied, the admin options stay in your menu, and a few administrator settings can still appear in some panels.
  • To see a product exactly as a customer does, open your storefront in a private (incognito) window or another browser and sign in with a test customer account that has the same roles as your customers.
  • Emulate User Mode is different from ImpersonateWhen logged into Infigo as an administrator, you are able to "Impersonate" other customers from the Customer Management screen. in Customer Management, which opens the storefront as a specific customer.
TipKeep your administrator session in your normal window and the test customer in a private window, so you can change a template and check the result side by side.

Step-by-step

  1. Open the product in the editor as an administrator

Open a MegaEdit productA product type in Infigo that uses the browser-based MegaEdit editor to let customers personalise templates online. on your storefront while signed in as an administrator and click Start. As an administrator every field is unlocked: selecting a field shows move, resize and rotate handles - even on fields your customers cannot move - and locked elements such as the background can be selected. Double-clicking text opens Text Options with an extra field settings tab and the Arrange and Manage sections.

  3. Check your field locks

[EMU] now appears before the product name and in the browser tab, so you can see the mode is on. Click your fields as a customer would: a field that is not allowed to move stays in place with no handles, and locked elements such as the background can no longer be selected. If a field moves when it should not, change its settings in the template and check again.

  6. Test the full customer experience in a private window

Emulate User Mode only changes how the editor behaves in your browser. You are still signed in as an administrator, so it does not show: details filled in from the customer's own account, such as personalised fields that pre-populate from their details; anything that depends on their customer roles, department, catalogue access or prices; or the editor exactly as they see it - the admin options stay in your menu, and a few administrator settings can still appear in some panels. To see a product exactly as a customer does, open your storefront in a private (incognito) window or another browser, sign in with a test customer account that has the same roles as your customers, and open the product there. Keep your administrator session in your normal window to make changes and compare.
