Placeholders in MegaEdit | ID:ME_014

In this tutorial, we will learn how to apply placeholder images to our image fields. Placeholders are simply greyed out images sitting in empty image fields, prior to a user placing an actual image within that field. Their primary use is for aesthetic purposes, ensuring a dynamic document isn't simply full of plain grey boxes.

00:00:13:04 - 00:00:14:12
In this tutorial we'll learn

00:00:14:12 - 00:00:17:23
how to apply placeholder images to image
fields.

00:00:18:18 - 00:00:23:02
Placeholders are simply grayed out
images sitting in empty image fields

00:00:23:09 - 00:00:26:17
prior to a user placing an actual image
within that field.

00:00:27:08 - 00:00:31:08
The primary use is for aesthetic purposes,
ensuring a dynamic document

00:00:31:08 - 00:00:35:03
isn't simply full of plain
gray boxes, essentially.

00:00:37:03 - 00:00:39:23
So the first thing we need to do,
I'm starting off on my MegaEdit

00:00:39:23 - 00:00:42:28
product
screen is navigate to general data.

00:00:43:28 - 00:00:46:07
Now again,
this can be done on the left hand side

00:00:46:16 - 00:00:49:12
or you can get to it through the resource
links on the top, right?

00:00:49:22 - 00:00:53:16
When you're on the MegaEdit
products screen.

00:00:53:23 - 00:00:57:21
So if I go to General Data,

00:00:57:21 - 00:01:02:07
my fourth tab along is placeholder
categories.

00:01:02:15 - 00:01:05:06
You'll see that I have one example of this
already in there.

00:01:06:03 - 00:01:08:08
Setting these up is pretty much identical

00:01:08:08 - 00:01:11:28
to the process
we saw for clip arts and for masks.

00:01:12:16 - 00:01:16:01
So we simply add a new record.

00:01:21:11 - 00:01:23:14
We can restrict

00:01:23:19 - 00:01:27:20
the utilization of these placeholders
to admin only if we wish to do so.

00:01:28:03 - 00:01:31:10
So if you don't want to allow
your customers to change the placeholders

00:01:32:19 - 00:01:35:16
and then you can insert

00:01:36:08 - 00:01:38:13
next we go to configure

00:01:38:13 - 00:01:40:14
And it's simply a case
of uploading the files

00:01:40:14 - 00:01:44:01
that you want to use
as your placeholders in JPEG, PNG

00:01:44:15 - 00:01:46:27
or PDF format.

00:01:48:10 - 00:01:50:03
So once those resources
have been uploaded,

00:01:50:03 - 00:01:52:08
you'll see the thumbnails at the bottom.

00:01:55:13 - 00:01:57:08
Then if we go back to our product.

00:01:57:08 - 00:02:02:14
So if we go to the resource links
and go to the product section,

00:02:02:14 - 00:02:06:15
we need to actually apply
that placeholder category

00:02:06:22 - 00:02:10:11
to one or more of our products.

00:02:15:11 - 00:02:16:12
So if I'm modifying

00:02:16:12 - 00:02:19:12
the actual MegaEdit product itself

00:02:19:12 - 00:02:22:28
about halfway along this list of tabs,
there's a placeholder tab

00:02:23:18 - 00:02:27:16
where I can select a placeholder category
or multiple placeholder categories

00:02:27:17 - 00:02:30:02
if I wish to do so.

00:02:32:15 - 00:02:34:18
Hit save and then I'm just going to load up

00:02:34:18 - 00:02:38:03
the MegaEdit editor
for this particular product.

00:02:39:09 - 00:02:40:03
Now what we see

00:02:40:03 - 00:02:42:18
is that we already have one empty image
frame

00:02:43:03 - 00:02:46:17
on this particular MegaEdit products
that I've ordered up.

00:02:46:21 - 00:02:50:22
So if I zoom in on that slightly
and you'll see that even by default,

00:02:51:02 - 00:02:53:19
that's
now been replaced by a placeholder image.

00:02:54:10 - 00:02:56:22
So it is still quite
clearly an empty frame,

00:02:56:28 - 00:03:00:24
but it's a bit more interesting
to look at.

00:03:01:05 - 00:03:03:18
We can change the placeholder
that's being utilized

00:03:04:07 - 00:03:05:25
by double clicking on the frame,

00:03:07:08 - 00:03:09:28
going to the details tab

00:03:10:01 - 00:03:12:05
and then scrolling down
until we find the option

00:03:12:07 - 00:03:15:13
to do with placeholder image.

00:03:15:13 - 00:03:18:07
And that will just give you a selection
list of all the images

00:03:18:07 - 00:03:20:13
that have been uploaded as a placeholder.

00:03:29:10 - 00:03:30:11
Once we apply an image

00:03:30:11 - 00:03:32:28
to that frame,
the placeholder is no longer utilized.

00:03:33:19 - 00:03:36:14
So if I just drag and drop any old image,

00:03:43:26 - 00:03:46:09
we'll see that the placeholder
is no longer valid.
